ALEXA BARNES

About Me

My name is Alexa Barnes, I’m a 30-something living in the Bay Area. I work as a Bioinformatic Scientist for Thermo Fisher Scientific. I am passionate about being a bridge between science, engineering, and leadership. I strive to do this by creating and utilizing cutting-edge technology and being actively involved in company culture. I have special interests in health informatics and legal informatics.

I was born and raised in Utah. I attended the University of Utah for my undergraduate degree and moved to Seattle, Washington after graduation. After working for a few years, I went back to grad school in San Diego, California. I relocated to San Francisco to work for Thermo Fisher Scientific as a bioinformatics scientist in 2020. (A few weeks before the pandemic!)

Outside of work, my hobbies include running, reading, surfing, hiking, snowboarding, and collecting sea glass on the beach with my dogs.
